Happy new year! If you’re anything like me you’re standing in your kitchen mouth agape at the sudden flood of emails that seem to indicate people are back at work doing things and expecting us to do things again, too? Already? Maybe you’re also a little excited for the possibility that comes with a new year, even though the vibes this year are pretty precarious?
Whatever you’re feeling, here’s something fun: a reminder that we have a new subscription tier for writers, artists and creative folks! If you have any writing projects, goals, or creative ambitions this year, and you want support, community, encouragement, accountability, space to let yourself off the hook or try out new things, regular craft essays and prompts to push you along, and two virtual retreats a year, you really should join us. Just click on the button below and upgrade to “Madwoman Writing Club.”
This new side of the newsletter is like a club for people who want to tap into a community of writers and artists talking craft, process, and practice—or like a looser, way less demanding version of a year-long course.
We already have a great discussion going about setting creative intentions for the new year— what intentions people are setting for themselves, but also how we approach setting intentions given that resolutions are decidedly OUT. You can join us here.
I’m currently leaving the sliding scale option on for this program so we can build up our group and keep things accessible. This means that for now, if you can’t afford the true cost of this program ($150+), you can subscribe for $51-$150. Just type in any amount above $50 when you subscribe. *See my note in the comments about this!
Read more about what you’ll get here. And don’t forget to select the Writing Club tier, rather than the regular paid subscription, if you want it all.
If you’re not a writer or artist, or if you just don’t want to get this content, don’t worry, nothing will change. You can still upgrade to a regular ol’ paid monthly or annual subscription to support the essays you read here, get full access to the archive and community discussions about books, politics, and culture, and get additional little treats like weekly recs, discussions, and events.
More soon!
FYI to all: some folks who are already paid subscribers let me know that when they try to upgrade to the Madwoman tier, they're not given the option to enter a sliding scale rate, even though I've enabled that option. Substack's pricing features are annoyingly limited and this seems to be a glitch in how upgrades work on phones and in the app, but I'm working on a fix for this!
For now, if you're already a paid subscriber, I suggest going to the desktop site (link below), and clicking "upgrade to founding" in the upper right-hand corner if you see it.
