I’ve been avoiding writing something Mother’s Day related. There is so much content. So much same same, rinse and repeat happy quotes about motherhood and I can’t help but to think about how the heavy lifting of performing on Mother’s Day is done by mother’s themselves (I’m talking from a heterosexual relationship POV). Gift buying and or researching is on the mother themselves as is the hosting, the baking for their children’s schools that host a Mother’s Day morning tea. None of the communication or ads seemed to be aimed at fathers, partners and/or sons. Not that I’m saying we need to give into consumerism but the act of considered gift-giving is still female. And yes I know not all men etc etc.
