Hi friends. What a time to be alive. I’ve been more quiet that usual this week because my thyroid is underperforming, my teaching load is overwhelming, and everyone seems to be functioning from a highly reactive, wounded, frightened place (including me! I get it!)!
Some announcements:
We are moving the Writing Group retreat to the week of December 9 for obvious reasons. I’ll send more details soon, but there will be a mix of write-ins and office hours and time to connect and share your work (all via Zoom and discussion threads) throughout that week. If you want to join us, upgrade to the Writing Group here.
Next Friday at 12pm PT, I’m doing an event online via Book Passage with Kate Hamilton, author of Mad Wife, and Donna Freitas, author of Consent: A Memoir of Unwanted Attention. Details here. You’ll be able to tune in via the bookshop’s YouTube live.
For
and I did a raw debrief on the election and the comments section writ large right now.
Usually I publish writing prompts on Friday, but I know from speaking with many of you that you are likely struggling to find your footing in your work— and to do the bare minimum in terms of caring for yourselves and your communities.
The simplest prompt I can offer during such times: write about why you write, and why you will continue to write.
In case you want more, here are some prompts and essays on craft from the archives that feel particularly relevant this week:
Take care out there.
